Dance in the Annex (DITA) is a modern dance collective based in Grand Rapids, MI. This site-specific work utilized its space at the historic Morton from inception to execution: the room where DITA presented “respirador (breather)” featured two rectangular wooden structures, at a 90 degree angle, so the piece was filmed with two cameras at a 90 degree angle. Both angles were projected simultaneously, as if they were two windows into the other space (six spaces were filmed, in total). Dancers could be seen from either angle and sometimes their movement crossed over between angles, adding to the idea that the “screens” were actually “windows,” into that other space.
